Reflection for Item #13: Survey of Cloud Tools and Presentation
Outcome addressed: Become comfortable with cloud tools through hands on experimentation.
I have chosen the Survey of Cloud Tools as my evidence of learning piece for OLTD 507. This survey includes a detailed description of each cloud based tool, including: Examples of Uses, Accessibility, Usability, Privacy/Intellectual Property. This document is meant for a quick reference guide for educators to use when deciding what tools they may use in their classroom or for their own professional use.
I learned that it is important to fully immerse yourself with an online tool and “test” it out before you use it in the classroom. I have learned while doing this activity, even though it was very time consuming at first, that it can save a lot of time later. There are so many cloud tools available, so to have a repository for quick reference is handy. I have a reconfirmation that it is important not to just pick any old tool to use. It is important to make sure that it fits and is useful for what I am teaching. I believe that this evidence fits well with the Constructivist model. I was able to construct my learning through “play” and immersion with the tools that interested me. I think the strengths of my evidence piece is that it is a simplified assessment of cloud tools. It is easy for those who don’t want to spend a lot of time assessing tools. They can make a quick decision as to whether they wish to further look into a tool. I have done the “leg” work for them. It is also beneficial for me for when I am considering a tool, that I can just access my Survey and reacquaint myself with the quick view of the selected tools.
The above mentioned outcome would be highly beneficial in my own practice as it reconfirms my belief that it is important for my students to “play” and have hands on experimentation with various tools and projects. Experimentation is vital for internalization of deeper thinking and learning.

Reflection for item #14: Building an Online Lesson or Module
Outcome addressed: Develop an online unit or lesson using cloud tools effectively
I have chosen the “Building an online lesson or module” as my evidence piece for OLTD 507. The piece is an online unit of study for the Aboriginal content in grade three. It is a work in progress, and as of this moment includes only one unit. The unit is focused on the meanings of the images our First Nations peoples use to tell about their lives. Students make connections among various pictures and videos. They then have activities they are required to do.
I learned how to set up a unit of study within an online environment that would be easy for my grade threes to access and navigate. I feel that creating the online unit has helped me to realize that I can construct a useful online unit that my students can access. I feel more confident that I can provide a meaningful and useful environment outside of my face to face class. I feel that the strength of this piece of evidence is that it provides me with a quick reference for online tools that I feel will enhance my students’ learning.
I feel that the above mentioned outcome is relevant to my practice in that I am more confident in designing online learning environments for my students.
