I realize that others have been commenting a posting about Google Glass already, but this is the first time I have taken the time to really look at it. I am actually speechless. I want one!!
As I was looking at what Google Glass was all about, I started to think about all of the amazing things I could do in the classroom with a few sets of these remarkable glasses. I thought about how my students could record what they are doing in class and send it to their parents immediately. They could go a "field trip" and record their findings/activities and then use the recording to augment an assignment. If students come across something when on said field trip, they could ask a question and have an immediate answer. Students could learn another language in the moment in real life situations. How powerful is that?!
Teachers can use Google Glass to record what their students are doing and do a real time share with that student's parents. Talk about instant feedback for parents. We could pretty much do away with report cards as we know them. Showing what students are doing and sending that information to parents via email right from the Google Glasses, may be the way we report in the future. A running formative evaluation. Wow.
I have had many times when students have asked me a question about what they were doing, sort of an extension to what we were doing and I have had to tell them to look it up on the internet or I have looked it up for them. How powerful would it be to ask and receive the answer to so many questions that extend a child's understanding?
I have also watched students who have difficulty typing. It can be painfully slow for some of them. To be able to ask instead of type, would be so much better for many younger students. Some students are put off by having to type something. This would give them instant access to questions they have and keep the momentum of the moment of inquisitiveness going and perhaps extend the learning even more.
