Where Am I Now?
I am excited and a little overwhelmed by the amount of information on online learning.
I have learned about the different theories of online learning and am steered toward more of the Connectivism Theory. I believe we are heading into a new age in education, where the student is connected to the world and others via the Internet. I also think that the Constructivist Theory has key elements that I like, such as: students creating their own knowledge, active learning, and work in collaborative groups.
I have really enjoyed working with Collaborate. It is a powerful tool to engage, connect, and share in learning in a virtual f2f environment.
I am, at this point, driven to a hybrid model in my classroom. I am still trying to figure out how I can accomplish this effectively. Using only the computer lab during certain times of the week only is not appealing. For now, though, it will have to suffice until I can have updated hardware in my classroom.
Doing my online learning model helped me to further visualize how to use what I already do, but in a very different context. The biggest difference is the use of media. I am excited about trying the things I have learned, for example: “Wordle” and webspaces with my students.
Using enquiry-based learning is a big one for me. I am excited to see what my students come up with.
How will I be able to incorporate what I have learned effectively in my classroom?
